Organic Dandelion & Lemongrass Soap

Sodium olivate (organic olive pomace oil), sodium cocoate (organic coconut oil), sodium shea butterate (organic Fair Trade shea butter), sodium castorate (organic castor oil), aqua, kaolin (Cornish clay), cymbopogon flexuosus (organic lemongrass) oil, lavandula angustifolia (organic lavender) oil, taraxacum officinale (dandelion) flowers, citral*, geraniol*, limonene*, linalool*. *Occurs naturally in essential oils.

Our soaps are made in small batches here in Chettle, Dorset. As with all our products, we use exceptional quality organic and plant-based ingredients sourced from as close to home as possible. Following the traditional cold-process soap making method ensures that the natural glycerine is retained.

This is a handcrafted product. Colours and designs vary between batches. Bars are cured for a minimum of 6 weeks. The final weight after curing ranges between 90 - 110g.

For maximum longevity, keep dry between uses on a well-drained soap dish.

The medicinal properties of dandelion were recorded in ancient Egyptian tombs, Arabian physicians were documenting it in the 10th century, and it arrived in the English folk tradition with a gallery of wonderfully irreverent names - blowball, monk's-head, swine's snout, witch's gowan, and the rather less poetic piss-a-bed, a nod to its long-celebrated diuretic powers. The Anglo-Saxons called it, in Old English, ǣġwyrt - egg-plant - after the pale, round seed head. Its botanical name, Taraxacum officinale, derives from the Arabic tarakhaqun, and the word dandelion itself is a corruption of the French dent de lion - lion's tooth - for the fierce, jagged edge of its leaves. Culpeper wrote that dandelion was ruled by Jupiter and "wonderfully openeth the passages." The dandelion flowers in these bars come from the fields behind our house in Chettle, foraged by hand from land that is pesticide-free and managed with a regenerative ethos. 

Lemongrass brings a different story - one that begins far from Dorset, in the tropical grasslands of Southeast Asia and India, where it has been used for centuries in traditional medicine as fever grass, brewed into teas to ease heat, infection and inflammation. Its essential oil, steam-distilled from the long bright leaves, is prized today by aromatherapists and natural skincare practitioners for its powerful antimicrobial and astringent properties, its ability to cleanse and tone the skin, and the uplifting, clarifying quality of its scent - at once citrus and green, familiar and transporting.
