Sea salt soap helps to remove dead skin cells, improve skin tone, and infuse the skin with essential minerals like magnesium and potassium. Its natural antibacterial properties and mineral can support care for skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema without being overly drying or abrasive.

At Dyppe we're proud to collaborate with Dorset Sea Salt - an incredible local company founded in 2017 as a Princes Trust-supported business. Founder Jethro and team are on a mission to revive the salt making industry on the Isle of Portland. The tradition had vanished due to industrialisation, but thanks to their efforts, their success is breathing life back into their stunning coastal town.

In their words: "Every flake is produced and harvested at their salt works on Chesil Beach. Using carefully controlled brines and slow evaporation, we craft delicate, pyramid-shaped flakes prized by chefs and home cooks alike. Each batch is closely monitored by our experienced team to ensure consistent quality and texture. Our soaps are made in small batches here in Chettle, Dorset. As with all our products, we use exceptional quality organic and plant-based ingredients sourced from as close to home as possible. Following the traditional cold-process soap making method ensures that the natural glycerine is retained.

This is a handcrafted product. Colours and designs vary between batches. Bars are cured for a minimum of 4 weeks. The final weight after curing ranges between 90 - 110g.

For maximum longevity, keep dry between uses by hanging on its rope in the shower or bath.

Salt bars are gentle enough for daily use on both the face and body. Create a creamy lather by rubbing the wet bar between your palms to ensure a gentle application.
Sea salt is revered in herblore not just as a culinary staple, but as a potent purifier and preservative, bridging the gap between land-based herbs and sea energy.

In folk bathing traditions, sea salt is rarely just a physical cleanser; it is a "spiritual detergent" believed to scrub away the invisible residue of misfortune, the evil eye, or stagnant energy. The bath is seen as a moment of reset between the day that has passed and the one yet to come. Salt is also held to be a protective substance and used to cleanse negative energy, break curses, and purify spaces.

Alfred Vogel, a famous traditional doctor, advocated for using sea salt with fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, and rosemary to stimulate the metabolism and in 18th Century Regency Britain, doctors like Dr. Richard Russell popularised sea bathing as a cure for everything from "glandular complaints" to madness. Modern day wild swimmers still rhapsodise about the many benefits of salt water bathing.

There's a wonderful Norwegian folk tale, collected by Peter Christen Asbørnsen and Jørgen Moe, tells that the ocean's saltiness is due to a magical, self-grinding, and endless quern. The original title was 'The Quern that Stands and Grinds at the Bottom of the Sea'. The translator, George Webbe Dasent, changed it to 'Why the Sea is Salt' for his translation to follow in the footsteps of other explanatory fables.
