Lip Balm | English Yarrow

This lip balm is suitable for all skin types. It is not suitable for vegans due to the inclusion of beeswax. The lip balms come in a fully recyclable cardboard container with a push-up mechanism. The tubes hold 2–3 times more product than standard lip balms, yet they're still small enough to pop in your pocket.

Yarrow is one of the oldest healing plants in the world. Archaeologists found it in a Neanderthal burial site in Iraq, placed among the dead - a sign that someone believed it would be useful in the afterlife. In Britain, it has been a fixture of hedgerow medicine since before written record. The Anglo-Saxons called it gearwe, and it appears in their herb lists alongside plants we still reach for today. Its Latin name, Achillea Millefolium, carries a legend with it: that Achilles used it to staunch the wounds of his soldiers on the plains of Troy. Yarrow has always been a wound-healer, a calmer, and a styptic - a plant you reach for when something needs to be soothed.

What makes this balm's yarrow oil so distinctive is its colour. Grown and distilled by Norfolk Essential Oils in the Fens, it is a deep, extraordinary blue - the result of exceptionally high levels of chamazulene, a compound produced during steam distillation that is one of nature's most potent anti-inflammatory agents. It is the same compound that gives blue chamomile its colour and its reputation. On the lips, it calms irritation, reduces redness, and supports the skin's natural healing.

Lavender needs little introduction, but Britain's lavender has its own story. Lavender has calmed and softened our skin since the Romans brought it north with them. The oil we use is grown on the chalk faces of the Surrey Hills, harvested in late summer and distilled on site to preserve the most delicate aromatic compounds. This produces an oil that is camphorous, clean, and unmistakably English.
